Privacy Policy

Vert (“we”, “us”) recommends trail-running routes in Marin County. This policy explains what we collect, why, the legal bases we rely on, how long we keep it, and your rights.

Who we are (data controller)

Vert is operated by its founders, who are the controllers responsible for your data. For any privacy question or request — including a copy of your data, or deletion — contact us at support@vert.monster.

What we collect

• Your email — to sign you in and send essential service messages.
• Your preferences — the easy pace, terrain, dog policy, and start location you tell us, used to personalize your recommendations and pace estimates.
• Your prompts and feedback — the run requests you type, the recommendations we returned, and the ratings you give, used to operate and improve the service. Prompts typed while signed out are stored without any link to you.
• Basic technical and usage data needed to run and secure the service.

How we use it, and our legal bases

• To provide the service you ask for — parse your prompt, rank routes, and estimate run times from the pace you gave us (legal basis: performance of a contract / your request).
• To operate, secure, and improve the service — including reviewing prompts and ratings to improve recommendation quality (legal basis: our legitimate interests in running and improving a service you asked to use).

We do not sell your data, show ads, or use it for automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. Only the prompt text you type is sent to our AI provider, to understand your request; we do not use your data to train any AI model.

Who we share it with (recipients)

We share data only with providers that help us operate, under their terms and only as needed: Anthropic and OpenAI (process your prompt text to understand your request), Mapbox and OpenStreetMap (maps), Vercel and Neon (hosting, database, and sign-in), and Sentry (error reports that help us fix problems; they describe the error, not your prompts). Weather comes from a public forecast API using the route’s location, not yours. Some providers process data outside your country; where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the providers’ standard contractual clauses.

Retention and deletion

You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing support@vert.monster; we complete such requests and confirm completion to you in writing. Data is removed from our live systems immediately; any residual copies in encrypted backups are purged on a rolling basis, within 30 days. We keep other data only as long as needed to run the service.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to access a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, and receive it in a portable form. To exercise any of these, email support@vert.monster and we will respond within the time the law allows. If you are in the EEA or UK and believe we have mishandled your data, you may also complain to your local data-protection supervisory authority.

Security

We store your data in a managed database and take reasonable measures to protect it, but no system is perfectly secure.

Communications

We use your email only to sign you in and send essential service messages. We will not use it for anything else without giving you a way to opt out. You can reach us to change your preferences at support@vert.monster.
